San Jose City College (SJCC) developed and began offering an ADS Peer Certificate with an emphasis in for Integrated Behavioral Health in 2020. Our current Peer Certification meets the 80-hour CalMHSA requirements. Our SJCC Peer Mentor Certification is supported by our Integrated Behavioral Health focus in our peer training which expands the 17 required areas of peer core competencies. In addition to the requirements of CalMHSA, we offer academic transfer classes as part of our SJCC Peer Certification.

CalMHSA 80-Hour Training:
Course: ADS-090 – Peer Advocacy and Wellness
Course: ADS-138 – Work Experience (1 unit)

SJCC Peer Mentor Certification:
Course: ADS-074 – Ethics, and Personal and Professional Growth
Course: ADS-138 – Work Experience (1 unit)
Course: ADS-090 – Peer Advocacy and Wellness
Course: ADS-078 – Integrated Behavioral Health
The curriculum courses include the 138 Work Experience course, which supports placement in a local program currently providing peer services to help you get started working in a local agency. It is our experience that “shadowing” current peers is a crucial path to learning. Many of our students identify as recovering or have co-occurring disorders, which may include you!
