Agency Biography

Sycamores (formerly Hathaway-Sycamores) has an extensive history in serving children, adults and families dating back to 1902. Historically, Sycamores has provided care for child welfare-involved youth through residential care, foster care, transitional living, and non-public schools. In 1999, Sycamores became one of the first providers in Los Angeles County to provide Wraparound and to hire Parents with lived experience as part of the treatment team. Sycamores’ believes strongly in family-driven care and partnering with families as the experts of their lives. The number of Parent Partners hired continued to grow, as well as having Parent Peer Support Leadership at all levels within the agency. Sycamores has extensive history in training Parent Peer Support specialists both internally and externally. In 2004, Sycamores helped to develop the Los Angeles Training Consortium (LATC) and offered Parent Peer Support and Wraparound trainings for over a decade through that initiative. Since 2012, Sycamores’ Peer Support Practice model and tools have been presented statewide and nationally at conferences and for individual agencies across the country.
