Agency Biography

Riverside University Health System – Behavioral Health (RUHS-BH) has been a leading peer support training resource in California since 2004, following the passage of the Mental Health Services Act. As a peer-run entity within Riverside County’s behavioral health system, RUHS-BH trains peers to provide direct services and integrate into treatment teams across all care levels.

Aligned with RUHS-BH’s mission to empower individuals and families through compassionate, culturally sensitive, and evidence-based services, the program promotes recovery, resiliency, and self-determination. RUHS-BH has been a state model, offering career pathways and billing Medi-Cal for peer support since 2006.

The Building Peer Leaders: A Medi-Cal Peer Support Certification Training curriculum covers essential core competencies. Facilitated by experienced peers, the training fosters an inclusive environment that respects diverse learning styles and lived experiences, welcoming all peer providers to advance wellness and recovery.
