Agency Biography

For over 25 years, the Health Education Department at City College of San Francisco has been a leader in Workforce Development, Education, and Training. Our Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist program adheres to teaching practices that promote student success. We foster hope, personal responsibility, empowerment, respect, resiliency, peer support, strength-based language, autonomy, and de-stigmatization. Our approach is humanistic, practical, and experiential, and emphasizes the value of lived experience and life expertise.

We believe that learning is effective when students; are emotionally supported, exposed to real life role-play scenarios, draw from their lived experience to problem solve, and are culturally affirmed. Ninety five percent of our graduates have become gainfully employed and/or have pursued educational pathways leading to community inclusion and increased life satisfaction.
