Agency Biography

Painted Brain’s mission is to create lasting community-based solutions to mental health challenges and the impact of social injustice through arts, advocacy, and enterprise. Since 2009, PB has utilized the arts and training to support people with mental health and substance use challenges as a leader in innovative peer-driven services and training in behavioral health, digital literacy, and the arts. We represent diversity throughout California, including the LGBTQ+, reentry, disability, and ethnically and linguistically diverse communities. PB’s Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification Training program prepares peers to deliver valuable behavioral health support services by covering the 17 Core Competencies required for Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification Training through self-reflection, skill building, practice sessions, and guided group exploration. PB’s Justice Involved Specialization Training focuses on specific skills needed by those who support people with a criminal justice system history and the ways peer support supports finding wellness, recovery, and reducing recidivism.
