Ethics & Boundaries for Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists
Ethics and boundaries are at the heart of effective peer support practice. This training is designed to support Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists in navigating professional ethics and maintaining healthy boundaries while providing services in county behavioral health delivery systems.
Developed by CalMHSA with funding from the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), this no cost course supports professional development, accountable practice, and ethical peer support. The training highlights the principles of peer work, with a focus on integrity, professional ethics, and maintaining the values of the peer role.
Course Objectives
- Understand ethical expectations for Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists
- Identify ethical principles guiding peer support
- Recognize how boundaries and confidentiality apply
- Apply decision-making strategies to real-world ethical dilemma
Continuing Education Credit
- This training is two hours in length and provides two continuing education (CE) credits toward Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist certification renewal.
- To receive credit, the course must be completed in its entirety, and a course evaluation submitted at the end. CalMHSA will issue a record of course completion.
Certificate of Completion
- All participants who complete the course will receive a certification of completion.
- Certificate of completion will be accepted by CalMHSA towards the continued education requirements for Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist biennial renewal.
